The SANDVIK COROMANT 6967045 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting right-hand internal threads to a 3/8-16 UNC specification in a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from powdered metal high speed steel and coated with AlCrN for heat and wear resistance, this tap handles demanding tapping operations where tool life and thread quality matter. It carries a 3BX class of fit and features a 45-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation up and out of the hole. The plug chamfer makes it suited for through-hole applications. Overall length is 3.937 inches with a thread length of 0.661 inches and a tapping depth of 1.535 inches.
This tap is part of the SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTap 300 series, engineered for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. It is well suited for CNC machining centers and production tapping environments in metalworking shops, tool rooms, and manufacturing facilities. The AlCrN coating supports dry and near-dry tapping as well as flood coolant setups, though this model does not include a coolant-through channel. It is sold individually and handles the thread sizes and material types most commonly encountered in general machining work.
Rated for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. Material application codes P, M, K, N, and S. Designed as a production-ready replacement or standard tooling option for 3/8-16 UNC through-hole tapping applications within the CoroTap 300 series.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC operators using a compatible tap holder or floating tap chuck sized for the 0.381-inch shank diameter. Verify spindle speed and feed rate against the CoroTap 300 series recommendations for the specific workpiece material before cutting. Inspect the tap for coating damage or chipping before each use. Do not reverse feed the tap before it has completed the full tapping cycle, as this can result in thread damage or tap breakage.
