The SANDVIK COROMANT 6906909 is a solid carbide milling insert in the R390 series, designed for face and shoulder milling operations in metalworking applications. Manufactured to ANSI and ISO standards under the designation R390-11 T3 04M-PM 1130, this insert features a parallelogram shape with a positive rake angle of 25 degrees and a 21-degree relief angle. The PVD-applied AlTiCrN coating delivers heat and wear resistance across demanding cutting conditions. With two cutting edges and a corner radius of 0.40 mm, it provides controlled chip formation through the PM chip breaker geometry. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians working in production environments are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering material grades P30, M15, and N15. It fits right-hand toolholders in the R390 and M-32 cutter series. Typical applications include shoulder milling, face milling, and ramping operations where precise depth of cut control is required. The insert size code 11T304 and screw-clamping retention method make it compatible with standard R390-series pockets. Production shops running multi-material schedules benefit from the broad material application range this grade supports.
Designed for use in R390 and M-32 series milling cutter bodies accepting 11T304 insert pockets with screw-clamp retention. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert designation R390-11 T3 04M-PM 1130.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to the cutter manufacturer's specified clamp-screw procedure — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide body. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for debris or wear before installing a new insert.
