Product Description

The SANDVIK COROMANT 6868297 is a TCMT-style indexable turning insert designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to CoroTurn 107 series specifications, this insert features a triangular 60-degree geometry with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius. It is manufactured from solid carbide and carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during moderate-to-heavy cutting passes. The neutral hand orientation suits both left- and right-hand toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in production and job-shop environments where consistent tool life and surface finish on cast iron workpieces are required.

This insert is engineered primarily for machining cast iron (ISO material group K). It fits into screw-lock toolholders compatible with the TCMT insert style and CoroTurn 107 series. The KM chip breaker geometry controls chip formation during turning of gray iron, ductile iron, and similar ferrous castings at moderate cutting depths up to 15.70 mm. It is suited for both roughing and finishing passes depending on feed and speed parameters selected by the operator. Three cutting edges are available per insert, and the rounded cutting edge style helps reduce micro-chipping at entry and exit.

Key Features

  • CVD multilayer coating: TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN for wear resistance and heat management
  • KM chip breaker geometry for controlled chip evacuation on cast iron
  • Three usable cutting edges per insert for extended tool economy
  • 1/32-inch (0.0313 inch) corner radius with rounded cutting edge style to reduce chipping
  • Screw-lock insert holding method for secure, repeatable seating
  • Maximum depth of cut 15.70 mm across supported cutting conditions

Compatibility

Designed for use with CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamp toolholders accepting TCMT insert style with clearance code C and tolerance code M. ISO designation: TCMT 16 T3 08-KM 3225.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down the machine and engage the spindle lock before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key specified for the CoroTurn 107 toolholder clamp screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert or damage the seat. Inspect the insert pocket and shim seat for debris or wear before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and tool-height repeatability.
