The SANDVIK COROMANT 6868287 is a TCMT-style triangular turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer coating, this insert carries the manufacturer grade designation 3225 and is engineered for high wear resistance and toughness when cutting cast iron workpieces. It features a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0313-inch (1/32 inch) corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. The UR chip breaker geometry targets roughing and medium machining applications. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert into compatible TCMT-style toolholders as part of the CoroTurn 107 series platform.
This insert is suited for machining cast iron components in both production and job-shop environments. The 60-degree triangular shape provides three usable cutting edges per insert, improving cost-per-edge efficiency. The positive side clearance geometry and rounded cutting edge style help manage chip load and reduce built-up edge during interrupted or continuous turning passes. The insert is secured via screw-clamping (Torx or equivalent per toolholder spec) and fits toolholders designed to accept the ANSI size code 21.52 or ISO size code 110208. It is appropriate for medium to high material removal rates on gray and ductile cast iron grades.
This insert is part of the CoroTurn 107 series and is specified under ANSI insert code TCMT21.52 and ISO insert code TCMT110208. It is compatible with toolholders designed to accept TCMT-style inserts at the 21.52 (ANSI) or 110208 (ISO) size designation with screw-clamp insert holding.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and zero-energy-lock the machine before changing inserts. Use the correct Torx or clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert properly — do not overtighten or substitute fastener types. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert to prevent insert rocking or premature fracture.
