The SANDVIK COROMANT 6868286 is a TCMT-style indexable turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 60-degree triangular insert shape with a 1/4 inch inscribed circle, a 1/64 inch corner radius, and a 7-degree relief angle. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide substrate and coated via CVD with a multilayer TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN coating system, corresponding to Sandvik Coromant grade 3225. This grade is engineered primarily for turning cast iron and is part of the CoroTurn 107 series. The UF chip breaker geometry produces a rounded cutting edge suited for light to medium finishing cuts.
This insert is intended for use in external turning applications where close tolerances and controlled chip formation are required. The CoroTurn 107 series is a screw-clamped insert system typically used on smaller CNC lathes and Swiss-type turning equipment where low cutting forces and stability at light depths of cut are priorities. The primary workpiece material designation is cast iron (ISO material code K). Maximum depth of cut reaches 10.34 mm. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both right-hand and left-hand tooling setups depending on the compatible toolholder.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamped toolholders accepting TCMT 11 02 04 inserts. ISO code TCMT 11 02 04-UF 3225. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping screw compatibility before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine in a safe, de-energized state and all axes locked. Use the manufacturer-specified clamping screw and recommended torque procedure for CoroTurn 107 toolholders. Inspect the pocket seating surface and clamping screw threads before installing a new insert edge. Never exceed the maximum recommended depth of cut for the insert size and chip breaker geometry in use.
