The SANDVIK COROMANT 6868237 is a CCMT-style turning insert engineered for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This solid carbide insert carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which builds heat and wear resistance at the cutting zone. It features an 80-degree diamond insert shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The KM chip breaker geometry is designed to control chip flow and reduce cutting forces during finishing and semi-finishing passes. Installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments, this insert fits screw-clamped toolholders.
This insert is suited for turning cast iron and similar K-group workpiece materials in both production and job-shop settings. The CoroTurn 107 series is a common platform used on screw-clamp toolholders in a wide range of CNC turning applications. The KM chip breaker geometry performs well in finishing and light semi-finishing cuts where controlled chip evacuation and surface finish are priorities. With a maximum depth of cut of 9.27 mm and 2 usable cutting edges per insert, this grade offers reliable tool life on cast iron components.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series screw-clamp toolholders. ISO code CCMT 09 T3 04-KM 3225. Intended for turning cast iron workpieces (ISO material group K). Verify toolholder bore and seat dimensions before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert seat and shim for debris or damage before seating the new insert, as contamination in the pocket can cause premature edge failure or poor surface finish.
