The SANDVIK COROMANT 6851311 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the VNGG style, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Belonging to the T-Max P series, this insert features a 35-degree diamond shape (V) with a neutral hand orientation and a sharp cutting edge style. The ISO designation is VNGG 16 04 02-SGF H13A. With a corner radius of 0.20 mm (0.0078 inches) and an SGF chip breaker geometry, it is engineered for finishing and semi-finishing cuts where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are critical. The H13A uncoated carbide grade is specifically selected for heat-resistant and difficult-to-machine materials.
This insert is primarily intended for machining stainless steel (ISO material code M) and is also rated for secondary applications on superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S). It is well-suited to turning operations in aerospace, medical device, chemical processing, and oil and gas applications where these materials are common. A licensed machinist or CNC operator typically installs and indexes this insert on compatible toolholders in production or job-shop turning environments. The maximum depth of cut is 16.05 mm.
Designed for use with VNGG-style toolholders compatible with the T-Max P series platform. Primary workpiece material is stainless steel; secondary rated materials include superalloys and titanium. Confirm toolholder seat and clamping style match the VNGG insert form and clamp-plus-pin holding method before installation.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket seat for debris or damage before seating the new insert. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine tool manufacturer guidelines when handling carbide inserts, as edges are extremely sharp.
