The SANDVIK COROMANT 6770726 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use with compatible 880-series indexable drills. Manufactured to grade 4344 with a PVD-applied TiAlN2 coating, this insert delivers thermal resistance and wear performance suited to demanding hole-making operations in steel, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials. The insert features a square shape with a GM chipbreaker geometry, a 5.10 mm (0.2008 inch) inscribed circle, and a 0.40 mm (0.0157 inch) corner radius. It is sized at 0.0945 inches thick and carries an insert size designation of 020204. Installation is right-hand cutting direction only. This insert is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is used in indexable drill bodies of the 880 series configured for right-hand cutting. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations on CNC machining centers and lathes with driven tooling. The GM chipbreaker geometry is suited for general-purpose drilling across a range of materials where controlled chip evacuation and edge stability are required. The TiAlN2 PVD coating supports elevated cutting temperatures, making this insert appropriate for dry or minimum-quantity lubrication (MQL) machining strategies as well as conventional flood coolant setups.
Designed as an OEM-specification replacement or standard supply insert for SANDVIK COROMANT 880-series indexable drill bodies requiring a square, GM-chipbreaker insert with a 5.10 mm inscribed circle and 2.20 mm mounting hole diameter. Verify seat and clamping requirements against the specific drill body before installation.
Insert seating and torque should follow the tooling manufacturer's specification for the 880-series drill body in use. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle completely before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key supplied or specified by the drill body manufacturer to secure the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for debris or damage before seating the new insert.
