The SANDVIK COROMANT 6626849 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in 880-style indexable drill bodies. It carries a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 coating under the 4324 manufacturer grade, providing a hard wear-resistant surface suited to demanding metal-cutting operations. The insert features an 18.60 mm inscribed circle (0.7323 inches), a thickness of 0.2165 inches, and a 0.8 mm corner radius. The GM chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation during drilling. This insert is installed and replaced by machinists, toolroom technicians, and production machine operators working with indexable drilling systems.
This insert is intended for use in 880-series indexable drill bodies in production machining environments, including CNC turning centers and machining centers. The square insert style with GM chipbreaker geometry makes it suited for general-purpose drilling in steel and similar workpiece materials where CVD-coated carbide grades are specified. Insert size designation is 090608. Applications typically include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in medium to high production settings.
Designed as a replacement or spare insert for SANDVIK COROMANT 880-style indexable drill bodies requiring a square insert with an 18.60 mm inscribed circle, 880 style designation, and GM chipbreaker geometry. Verify drill body seat specifications before ordering.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and all stored energy isolated per facility lockout-tagout procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or insert-seating wrench specified for the drill body to seat and torque the insert screw — do not over-tighten by feel alone. Inspect the pocket seat for debris or damage before installing a new insert. Refer to the drill body manufacturer documentation for seating torque and index procedure.
