The SANDVIK COROMANT 6626837 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert engineered for use in SANDVIK COROMANT 880-series indexable drills. Built to grade 4324, this square-profile insert features a TiCN and Al2O3 multilayer coating applied via the CWD process, providing thermal resistance and wear protection during high-feed drilling operations. The inscribed circle measures 10.65 mm (0.4193 inches), thickness is 0.1378 inches, and the corner radius is 0.60 mm (0.0236 inches). The GM chipbreaker geometry is designed to control chip formation across a range of materials, reducing built-up edge and improving hole finish. Installation is performed by qualified machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
This insert is used in industrial machining environments, including general-purpose drilling on CNC machining centers, turning centers with live tooling, and manual drill presses where indexable tooling systems are employed. The 880GM geometry suits applications in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials. The right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional spindle rotation in the majority of vertical and horizontal machining setups. Insert size designation is 06P, and the mounting hole diameter is 4.00 mm (0.1575 inches), compatible with the corresponding 880-series drill body seat geometry.
Designed as a replacement insert for SANDVIK COROMANT 880-series indexable drill bodies that accept square 06P insert seats. Refer to SANDVIK COROMANT tooling documentation to confirm exact body compatibility before ordering.
Indexable drill inserts are installed and replaced by machinists or tooling technicians familiar with indexable cutting tool systems. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to seat the insert clamp screw; do not over-tighten by feel alone. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and prevent premature failure.
