The SANDVIK COROMANT 6427399 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert engineered for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It belongs to the CoroCut QD series and carries a 1/8 inch (0.1250 inch) cutting width with a tight width tolerance of 0.001969 inches for consistent, repeatable cuts. The insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which provides thermal resistance and extended tool life in demanding materials. The neutral hand orientation and clamp-style holding method make this insert compatible with standard QD-style toolholders used across a wide range of turning setups. It is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for grooving and parting applications in both production machining and maintenance environments. The CM chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation during grooving passes, reducing the risk of chip buildup in the cut zone. The 7-degree relief angle and 0.20 mm (0.0079 inch) corner radius make it appropriate for medium-duty cutoff work on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. It is commonly used in applications where tight groove width tolerances and clean parting faces are required.
Designed for use with CoroCut QD series clamp-style toolholders accepting a size G insert seat. Suitable for grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Confirm toolholder insert seat size G and QD insert style before installation.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct clamp key or torx wrench specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert securely — do not overtighten or substitute hardware. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert to maintain positioning accuracy.
