The SANDVIK COROMANT 6398198 is a solid carbide cutoff insert designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the CoroCut QD series specification, it features a 4 mm cutting width (0.1575 inches) and a neutral lead angle of 0 degrees, making it suited for straight parting cuts with balanced radial forces. The insert is PVD-coated with a TiCN/Al2O3/TiN multilayer coating in grade 1135, which provides wear resistance and edge stability during continuous or interrupted cutting. Overall length is 12 mm (0.4724 inches). Clamp-style holding secures the insert in compatible QD-series toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shops or production environments install this insert as a direct replacement or standard stocking item.
This insert is used in parting and grooving applications on turning machines handling a range of workpiece materials. The CR chipbreaker geometry is designed to manage chip formation during cutoff operations, reducing the risk of chip jamming in the cut zone. The neutral hand and 7-degree relief angle suit applications where the insert engages the workpiece perpendicular to the feed axis. A corner radius of 0.30 mm (0.0118 inches) provides a controlled edge finish at the base of the parting groove. Typical users include production machinists and toolroom operators performing high-volume or precision parting work.
Designed as a replacement insert for CoroCut QD series toolholders accepting size H insert seats. Catalog reference number QD-NH-0400-0003-CR 1135.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket walls and clamp securely before resuming cutting; an improperly seated carbide insert can fracture under cutting loads. Handle solid carbide inserts carefully to avoid chipping the cutting edge prior to use.
