The SANDVIK COROMANT 6162328 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. This insert carries the ISO designation TCMT 09 02 08-KM 3210 and belongs to the CoroTurn 107 series. It features a multilayer TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN coating applied over a carbide substrate, providing wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. The triangular insert shape offers 3 cutting edges per insert, and the KM chip breaker geometry is optimized for cast iron machining. The insert measures 9.37 mm in length with a 0.0315 inch corner radius and a 7/32 inch inscribed circle diameter.
This insert is suited for turning cast iron workpieces in production environments where consistent chip control and tool life are required. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard right-hand and left-hand toolholders that accept TCMT-style inserts. The screw-clamping holding method ensures secure seating in the toolholder pocket. Typical applications include external diameter turning and facing operations on gray cast iron, ductile iron, and similar K-group materials in both light and medium cutting conditions.
Designed for use with TCMT-style toolholders in the CoroTurn 107 series that accept screw-clamped triangular inserts with a 7/32 inch inscribed circle. Primary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO group K). Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping screw specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not over-torque or under-torque the screw, as either condition can cause insert movement or fracture. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
