The SANDVIK COROMANT 6042791 is a coated carbide turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for single-point turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries an ISO code of CNMG 12 04 12-KRR 3210 and features a multilayer TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN coating over a solid carbide substrate. The KRR chip breaker geometry is optimized for cast iron machining, controlling chip flow and reducing cutting forces at moderate to heavy depths of cut. The insert measures 12.90 mm in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and delivers 4 usable cutting edges per insert, maximizing cost-per-edge value in production environments.
This insert is primarily applied in turning operations where the primary workpiece material is cast iron, including gray, ductile, and compacted graphite iron grades. It is suited for medium to heavy roughing passes, with a maximum depth of cut of 11.70 mm. The neutral hand orientation and CNMG insert style make it compatible with standard CNMG-style toolholders used in turning centers, CNC lathes, and manual engine lathes across job shop and production machining environments. Installation is performed by machinists and CNC operators as part of routine insert indexing and toolholder maintenance.
Designed for use in CNMG-style turning toolholders compatible with the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P system. Suitable for ISO clearance code N and tolerance code M insert seats. Primary application is cast iron workpiece materials per ISO material code K.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a full stop, spindle off, and locked-out state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Seating surfaces on the toolholder pocket and clamping pin should be inspected and cleaned before installing a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for the insert geometry, and verify correct torque on the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer's documentation. Mixing insert grades or chip breaker styles within a multi-pass program may produce inconsistent surface finishes.
