The SANDVIK COROMANT 6035617 is a replaceable-tip drill body from the CoroDrill 870 series, designed for precision hole-making in metalworking and machining applications. The tool accepts 870-1140-8-PM insert tips at insert seat size 8, enabling fast tip changes without removing the body from the spindle. It covers a drill diameter range of 11.00 to 11.49 mm (0.4331 to 0.4524 inches) with a maximum drill depth of 59.21 mm (2.33 inches), corresponding to a 5xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The straight-cylindrical shank and steel body are compatible with the 870 LX-5 toolholder style. Through-coolant delivery supports chip evacuation and extended tip life at depth.
The 6035617 is suited for production machining environments where consistent hole quality and minimal downtime between tip changes are priorities. Typical applications include CNC machining centers handling steel, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials in automotive, aerospace, and general manufacturing contexts. The 5xD depth capability makes it appropriate for deeper holes where a standard 3xD drill would require peck cycles. The tool is sold individually and is a direct drill body — replacement inserts must be ordered separately using the 870-1140-8-PM insert designation.
Designed for use with 870-1140-8-PM replaceable-tip inserts at insert seat size 8. Toolholder style is 870 LX-5. This is the drill body only — compatible tips must be sourced separately.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer is in a safe state before mounting or changing the drill body or tip insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw when seating the replaceable tip. Verify through-coolant passages are clear and coolant pressure is set to the machining center's recommended value before initiating a cutting cycle.
