The SANDVIK COROMANT 5922160 is a solid carbide milling insert in the Series 490 platform, designed for high-performance face and shoulder milling operations. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCrN, Al2O3, and TiN under manufacturer grade 2040, targeting long tool life and thermal resistance at the cutting edge. The insert has a square shape with a positive rake angle of 26 degrees and four cutting edges, making it a cost-effective option for production environments. It measures 3.90 mm thick with an inscribed circle of 13.80 mm and a corner radius of 0.80 mm. Installation is via screw-hold method into compatible 490-series cutter bodies.

This insert is suited for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material grades P45, M40, and S30. It is appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes where controlled chip formation is required. The MM chip breaker geometry supports positive cutting action and chip evacuation in these demanding materials. Installation Notes

Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before handling or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to the cutter body manufacturers specified torque when securing the clamping screw - do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
