The SANDVIK COROMANT 5915136 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG331-SM configuration, manufactured under the T-Max P series. It carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, providing thermal and oxidation resistance during interrupted and continuous turning operations. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape (V), a neutral hand orientation, and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch). With an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches (3/8 inch) and an insert length of 0.0945 inches, this insert is engineered for precision metal removal. It is installed using a clamp and pin holding method. Licensed machinists and CNC turning professionals use this insert for demanding applications on difficult-to-machine materials.
This insert is rated primarily for stainless steel (ISO material code M) and secondarily for superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S). The SM chip breaker geometry is designed to manage chip control and cutting forces in these tough materials. It is suited for both roughing and finishing passes in CNC turning centers and manual lathes where close tolerances are required. The ISO designation for this insert is VNMG 16 04 04-SM 1105. Each package contains one insert, with a minimum order quantity of 10 units. This insert fits standard VNMG-compatible toolholders used in production and job-shop turning environments.
Designed for use in standard VNMG-compatible turning toolholders. ISO insert designation VNMG 16 04 04-SM 1105 identifies direct fitment. Suitable for turning centers and lathes accepting VNMG 331 geometry inserts with clamp and pin retention. Primary application materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium per ISO material codes M and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Before indexing or replacing the insert, ensure the machine is fully stopped, de-energized, and locked out per shop safety procedures. Clean the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and repeatability. Do not overtighten the clamp screw; follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the specific holder in use.
