The SANDVIK COROMANT 5915126 is a WNMG432-SM 1105 indexable turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert features a solid carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, delivering thermal resistance and edge retention in demanding cutting conditions. The trigon (W) shape provides an 80-degree included angle and six available cutting edges per insert. It carries a neutral hand orientation, an M tolerance code, and an N clearance code. The SM chip breaker geometry targets controlled chip formation in medium to finishing cuts. Insert thickness measures 0.1875 inches and the inscribed circle diameter is 0.5 inches.
This insert is engineered primarily for machining stainless steel (ISO material code M), with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S). Those are demanding workpiece materials that require coatings and geometries capable of handling work hardening, built-up edge, and high cutting temperatures. Typical install scenarios include production turning on multi-axis CNC machines where consistent tool life and chip control are critical. The SM geometry and 1105 grade combination suit medium depths of cut and moderate feed rates on these challenging materials. ISO designation for this insert is WNMG 08 04 08-SM 1105.
Designed for use in standard WNMG 432 indexable toolholders from the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series. Compatible with any toolholder accepting the WNMG insert style with clamp and pin holding method. Verify holder seat geometry and clamping configuration before installation.
Turning inserts of this type are seated and secured by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician following machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Power down and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing any cutting insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination will affect runout and edge life. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw - do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert or damage the pocket.
