The SANDVIK COROMANT 5909026 is a DNMG432-SMR 1115 grade solid carbide turning insert engineered for demanding material removal on stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It carries a dual-layer TiAlN and AlCr2O3 coating applied via PVD process, delivering heat and wear resistance suited to the high-temperature cutting conditions these workpiece materials generate. The 55-degree diamond insert shape (DNMG style) provides a strong, versatile cutting geometry with a 0.0313-inch corner radius. Designed for use in T-Max P series tooling systems, this insert is installed by machinist and toolroom professionals working on CNC lathes and turning centers. Four cutting edges per insert extend service intervals and reduce per-edge tooling cost.
This insert is intended for turning operations on stainless steel as the primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium. The SMR chip breaker geometry is selected for controlled chip formation in these tough, work-hardening materials. Typical applications include finishing and semi-finishing passes on precision turned components in aerospace, medical, and industrial manufacturing environments. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with a wide range of right-hand and left-hand turning setups depending on the toolholder configuration used.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series toolholders accepting DNMG-style inserts with clamp and pin holding. ISO designation DNMG150408-SMR 1115 cross-references this insert to metric toolholder specifications. No additional compatible model numbers were specified in the product data.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine powered off and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate T-Max P clamping hardware to secure the insert; ensure the insert seat and pocket are clean and free of chips before seating. Torque clamping screws per the toolholder manufacturer guidelines — do not substitute generic fasteners. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edges prior to use.
