The SANDVIK COROMANT 5909000 is a solid carbide turning insert in the T-Max P series, ground to ANSI code DNGG432 and ISO code DNGG150408-SGF 1105. It features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a TiAlN PVD coating for high wear-resistance in demanding cutting applications. The SGF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing operations, making this insert a go-to choice for machinists running tight-tolerance passes on difficult materials. The insert carries a negative side clearance and a 1/2 inch inscribed circle, with a corner radius of 1/32 inch (0.0313 inch). Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is designed for turning stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. The TiAlN PVD coating and 1105 grade are matched to the wear demands of ISO material group S (special and super alloys). The SGF chip breaker geometry controls chip flow effectively during light to medium finishing cuts. Applications include OD turning, facing, and profiling on CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments handling aerospace, medical, and energy-sector components.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting DNGG432 / DNGG150408 style inserts with clamp or pin retention. Fits standard D-style insert pockets in the T-Max P series toolholder lineup. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seating before use.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and in a safe, locked-out state. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-tighten or improvise clamping components. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Confirm proper insert orientation and cutting edge engagement before resuming operation.
