The SANDVIK COROMANT 5888488 is a single-sided, square-shape solid carbide milling insert designed for high-performance metal cutting in industrial machining applications. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and graded 1040, this insert delivers thermal resistance and wear protection suited to demanding cutting conditions. It features a positive rake geometry at 27 degrees with a corner-rounded cutting edge style and provides four usable cutting edges per insert. The chip breaker designation is MM, and the insert is held in place by a screw-clamp method. Insert size code is 08T308, with an inscribed circle of 8.50 mm and a thickness of 3.30 mm.
This insert is intended for machining steel and stainless steel workpieces, corresponding to material application codes P and M under ISO classification. It is compatible with the Sandvik 490 cutter series and is suited for right-hand cutting configurations. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and profiling operations on CNC machining centers in job shop and production environments. The maximum depth of cut is 5.50 mm. These inserts are installed and indexed by machining professionals and CNC operators working in precision metal fabrication and manufacturing.
Designed for use with the Sandvik Coromant 490 cutter series. ANSI and ISO code: 490R-08T308M-MM 1040. Compatible with right-hand cutter bodies accepting 08T308 size inserts. Refer to your cutter body documentation to confirm seat geometry before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer to seat the clamping screw — do not over-torque. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and runout accuracy.
