The SANDVIK COROMANT 5853563 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for use in R245 series face milling and shoulder milling cutters. Manufactured to grade S30T with a TiAlN Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability when cutting stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The square insert geometry features a positive 15-degree rake angle with a corner-rounded cutting edge style and a PL chip breaker, producing four usable cutting edges per insert. The inscribed circle measures 0.5276 inches (13.40 mm) and the insert thickness is 0.1563 inches (3.97 mm). Installation is by screw-clamp. Licensed HVAC technicians and machinists working in precision metal-removal applications will find this insert suited to demanding material grades.
This insert is applied in milling operations targeting stainless steel (ISO material group M) and superalloys and titanium (ISO material group S). The right-hand, single-sided configuration delivers a maximum depth of cut of 0.2559 inches (6.50 mm). The R245 cutter series compatibility makes it a direct fit for existing R245 tooling setups in job shops, production machining, and MRO environments. The ANSI and ISO code for this insert is R245-12 T3 E-PL S30T, confirming cross-standard sizing compliance. Machinists performing high-feed or shoulder milling passes on difficult-to-machine alloys are the primary users of this insert geometry.
Designed for use with R245 series milling cutter bodies. The ANSI and ISO designation R245-12 T3 E-PL S30T confirms dimensional conformance to both standards. Cutter series compatibility is listed as R245.
This insert is installed by a machinist or tooling technician using the screw-clamp method standard to R245 cutter bodies. Power down the machine spindle and engage the spindle lock before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer to seat the clamp screw — do not overtighten by feel alone. Inspect the cutter pocket seat and clamp for chips or damage before seating a new insert.
