The SANDVIK COROMANT 5853218 is an indexable boring bar from the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for internal boring and turning operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. Built from solid carbide, this right-hand cutting toolholder features a 1/2 inch (12.70 mm) shank diameter and a minimum bore diameter of 0.5984 inches (15.20 mm). The bar measures 8 inches (203.20 mm) overall length and uses screw clamping to secure a single CCMT 21.51 insert. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and tool life in demanding cuts. It carries a neutral rake angle and a 0-degree lead angle, making it suitable for general-purpose internal stock removal.
This boring bar is used in precision turning applications where tight bore tolerances are required. The E-SCLC toolholder style accommodates CCMT 21.51 inserts with a 1/4 inch inscribed circle, allowing machinists to select insert grades matched to the workpiece material. The multi-use designation means the same bar supports both boring and internal turning in a single setup, reducing tool changes. Typical installations are performed by CNC machinists and toolroom professionals working on lathes and live-tool turning centers in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments.
Designed for use with CCMT 21.51 inserts (1/4 inch inscribed circle). Part of the SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 107 series. Compatible with any machine tool spindle or turret accepting a 1/2 inch round shank toolholder.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or changing the boring bar or insert. Ensure the shank is fully seated and clamped to the specified tool block or turret pocket before resuming operation. Verify minimum bore clearance against the 0.5984 inch minimum bore diameter before engaging the cut.
