The SANDVIK COROMANT 5781994 is a laydown threading insert from the CoroThread 266 series, designed for cutting internal NPT threads in precision machining applications. This solid carbide insert features a TiCrAlN/TiN PVD coating that provides wear resistance and extended tool life under demanding cutting conditions. It is configured for right-hand internal threading at 8 threads per inch with a 60-degree included angle. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.1563-inch thickness make it suited to standard toolholders in the 266 insert family. Machinists and toolroom professionals in metalworking, pipe fitting, and industrial manufacturing environments are the primary installers.
This insert is used in CNC lathes and turning centers performing internal NPT thread-cutting operations on pipe fittings, valves, and related components. The NPT thread standard makes it appropriate for pressure-bearing fluid and gas system components where tapered thread engagement is required. The single-tooth-per-side geometry and A chipbreaker designation support controlled chip formation during threading passes. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units, making it suitable for shop stocking or job-lot procurement.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT CoroThread 266 series toolholders accepting insert style 266, size code 16, with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Confirm toolholder seat geometry and clamping configuration before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or clamping screw torque per the toolholder manufacturer documentation — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle. Verify insert orientation and seating before resuming any cutting operation.
