The SANDVIK COROMANT 5762187 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for use in 490-series face and shoulder milling cutters. It carries a TiAlN PVD coating and is manufactured to grade 1010, a wear-resistant substrate suited for interrupted cuts and hard, abrasive workpiece materials. The insert is square in shape with a 90-degree included angle, a positive rake geometry of 32 degrees, and a corner radius of 0.80 mm (approximately 1/32 inch). Four cutting edges are available per insert, and the chip breaker style is PL. These characteristics make it a productive choice for shops running cast iron and hard material applications where edge stability and coating adhesion are critical.
This insert is intended for use in 490-series milling cutter bodies. It is suited for medium to rough milling of cast iron and hard materials in both production and job-shop environments. The single-sided, right-hand configuration and screw-holding method are consistent with standard 490-series tooling setups. The maximum depth of cut reaches 5.50 mm (0.2165 inches), making it appropriate for moderate stock removal passes. Machinists and tooling engineers working with ferrous and hard material grades will find the PL chip breaker geometry effective for controlling chip flow and reducing cutting forces during face milling operations.
Designed for use with 490-series milling cutter bodies. ANSI and ISO code: 490R-08T308M-PL 1010. Insert size code: 08T308. Cutter series compatibility is confirmed for the 490 platform.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling setup technicians using the screw-holding method standard to 490-series insert pockets. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the cutter body pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the insert. Follow the cutter body manufacturer's torque specification for the insert clamping screw to avoid cracking the carbide substrate.
