The SANDVIK COROMANT 5758002 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert from the CoroThread 266 series, designed for external UNJ thread forms at 24 threads per inch. It carries a TiAlN and TiCrAlN PVD coating applied through physical vapor deposition, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during threading operations. The insert features a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle, and a thickness of 5/32 inch (3.97 mm). It is suited for CNC lathes and turning centers where precise, repeatable thread profiles are required. Machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace and high-tolerance manufacturing environments are the primary installers of this insert type.
This insert is intended for external right-hand UNJ threading applications on turning centers and CNC lathes. UNJ thread forms are common in aerospace fastener and component manufacturing, where root radius requirements exceed standard UN specifications. The insert fits toolholders compatible with the CoroThread 266 system and is engineered for single-tooth engagement per side. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use with CoroThread 266 series toolholders that accept insert style 266 with a 16 insert size code. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against the CoroThread 266 system documentation for the 3/8-inch inscribed circle size.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine spindle stopped and all energy sources isolated per standard lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key specified for the CoroThread 266 clamp screw to avoid overtightening or insert damage. Verify insert orientation for right-hand thread direction before beginning the threading cycle. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
