The SANDVIK COROMANT 5756236 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable insert drills across metalworking and machining operations. Manufactured to the WCMX insert style with a Trigon shape, this insert features a PVD-applied Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating and a manufacturer grade of 1020, making it well suited for general-purpose drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches (12.70 mm), thickness is 0.1875 inches (3/16 inches), and the corner radius is 1.20 mm (0.0472 inches). Installation and tooling setup is handled by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is applied in indexable drill bodies that accept WCMX-style inserts, typically used in vertical machining centers, turning centers with live tooling, and drill presses configured for insert-style tooling. The 53 chipbreaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole drilling cycles. The insert size designation is 8, with a relief angle of 7 degrees and an included angle of 7 degrees. Suitable for shops running moderate to high production volumes where insert indexability reduces downtime compared to solid drill retharpening cycles.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for WCMX53 1020 grade indexable drill inserts used in insert size 8 drill bodies accepting WCMX-style Trigon inserts. Verify toolholder seating pocket dimensions and screw torque specifications against the drill body manufacturer documentation before installation.
Insert replacement is performed by machinists following standard indexable tooling procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key as specified by the drill body manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and tool runout.
