The SANDVIK COROMANT 5756088 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Identified by ISO code VNMG 16 04 08-MM 1125, it carries a dual-layer PVD coating of TiAlN and AlCr2O3, which delivers thermal resistance and wear protection across a broad range of cutting conditions. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and the MM chip breaker geometry. With a 0.6223-inch cutting edge length and a 1/32-inch corner radius, it is suited for medium to finishing passes where controlled chip formation and surface finish consistency are priorities. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, production facilities, and toolrooms install this insert type.
This insert is configured for primary use in steel cutting applications and is also rated for stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium secondary workpiece materials. The T-Max P series platform is a common toolholding system used in high-volume turning operations on both manual and CNC equipment. The MM chip breaker geometry is optimized for light-to-medium depth-of-cut scenarios where chip curl and evacuation are critical to maintaining consistent machining performance. It is held in place via clamp and pin mounting, which is standard for VNMG-style insert pockets.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for VNMG 16 04 08-MM geometry pockets in T-Max P series toolholders and equivalent VNMG-style clamp-and-pin insert seats. Confirm toolholder insert pocket geometry and size code 332 compatibility before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures applied before any insert change. Use the appropriate torque wrench and seating tool recommended for VNMG clamp-and-pin style toolholders to avoid cracking the insert or distorting the pocket. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, debris, or wear before seating the new insert. Verify depth of cut, feed rate, and spindle speed are set within the recommended parameters for the workpiece material and insert grade before resuming cutting operations.
