The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755859 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ISO designation VBMT 16 04 08-UM 5015, using a 35-degree diamond insert shape (V) with a neutral hand orientation. The uncoated bright finish suits applications where coating interaction with the workpiece is a concern. With an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches and a corner radius of 0.0313 inches (1/32 inches), this insert is built for light to medium finishing cuts requiring tight tolerances and consistent chip control.
This insert is suited for turning steel (ISO material code P) as its primary workpiece material, with cast iron (ISO material code K) as the secondary application. The UM chip breaker geometry is optimized for universal medium-duty finishing passes where reliable chip evacuation is critical. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in job shop, production, and maintenance turning environments. The screw-holding method (clearance code B, tolerance code M) provides secure clamping and accurate repeatability during high-cycle runs.
Designed for use with SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 107 series toolholders configured for VBMT-style inserts with a screw-clamp holding method. Verify holder bore and insert seat geometry before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully stopped and in a locked-out state per applicable machine safety procedures. Use the correct Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert seat for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Index or replace the insert at the first sign of flank wear, chipping, or surface finish degradation to avoid workpiece damage.
