The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755622 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBMT331-MM 1125 designation, part of the CoroTurn 107 series. It features a multilayer PVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied over a carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during metal cutting operations. The insert measures 0.638 inches in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The 35-degree diamond shape (Shape Code V) with a neutral hand orientation and B clearance makes it well suited for external turning and finishing passes. It is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians on turning centers and lathes.
This insert is designed for turning operations on steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The MM chip breaker geometry supports a range of cutting conditions, and the screw-on holding method is compatible with standard CoroTurn 107 toolholders. The maximum depth of cut reaches 0.638 inches, giving the insert flexibility across roughing and semi-finishing applications. Typical installations involve production turning environments where consistent chip control and coating durability are required across multiple part runs.
Designed for use with CoroTurn 107 series toolholders accepting VBMT-style inserts. ISO designation: VBMT 16 04 04-MM 1125. Compatible with screw-clamping toolholder systems sized for a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and all motion has ceased before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating procedure when tightening the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before mounting to ensure proper contact and repeatability.
