The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755605 is a VBMT221-MF 2025 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on stainless steel and other ISO M-group workpiece materials. This insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive side clearance and a neutral hand orientation. The multilayer CVD coating stack — TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN — delivers high wear resistance balanced with toughness, making it well suited for interrupted cuts and demanding stainless steel profiles. The MF chip breaker geometry is engineered specifically for finishing passes, producing controlled chip flow at light depths of cut and fine feed rates. Cutting edge count is 2 per insert.
This insert is intended for use in CoroTurn 107 toolholders and compatible screw-clamp boring bars and external turning tools. Its primary application is finish turning of stainless steel components in CNC lathe and turning center operations, both in job shop and production environments. The VBMT221 size code and ISO designation VBMT 11 03 04-MF 2025 allow direct cross-reference into toolholder catalogs for proper seat and clamping confirmation. Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state per applicable machine-specific lockout-tagout procedures. Use the correct Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert seat or the insert body. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Handle carbide inserts carefully; chipping can occur from contact with hard surfaces.
