The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755604 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBMT221-MF geometry, part of the CoroTurn 107 series. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN under manufacturer grade 2015, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding cutting environments. The insert measures 0.4201 inches in length with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius. It features a neutral hand orientation and an MF chip breaker designed for controlled chip formation in finishing and light interrupted cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in screw-clamped toolholders on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is primarily suited for turning stainless steel (ISO material code M), making it appropriate for machining austenitic and duplex stainless components in aerospace, medical, food processing, and industrial manufacturing applications. The 35-degree diamond shape (VBMT insert style) allows access to tight profiles and contoured workpiece geometries. The MF chip breaker geometry supports light to medium depth-of-cut finishing passes where chip control on gummy, work-hardening materials is critical. The CoroTurn 107 series is designed for external turning and profiling operations where the insert is held by a single screw through the central hole.
Designed for use in VBMT-style screw-clamp toolholders within the CoroTurn 107 system. Compatible with toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, 1/8-inch thick VBMT insert with a B clearance and M tolerance designation. Verify toolholder pocket dimensions against ISO code VBMT 11 03 04-MF 2015 before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the torque value specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not rely on feel alone. Inspect the pocket and screw threads for chips or debris before seating a new insert to prevent micro-fracture from uneven clamping.
