The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755521 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external turning operations on difficult-to-machine materials. It features a VBMT insert style with a 35-degree diamond shape and a neutral hand orientation. The insert carries a dual-layer PVD coating of TiAlN and AlCr2O3, providing heat and wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. With a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, an insert length of 0.428 inches, and a corner radius of 0.20 mm (0.0079 inches), this insert is engineered for finishing and semi-finishing passes where edge sharpness and surface finish are critical. It is held in place by screw clamping and fits toolholders with the corresponding VBMT pocket geometry.
This insert is primarily intended for turning stainless steel, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium. The MF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to medium depths of cut on work materials that produce stringy, difficult-to-control chips. Typical applications include CNC lathe operations in aerospace, medical device, and general precision machining environments where consistent chip control and tight tolerances are required. The 1115 grade paired with PVD coating suits lower cutting speeds that protect the edge on work-hardening alloys. Each package contains one insert; the minimum order quantity is 10 units.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders accepting VBMT-style inserts with a screw-on clamping method. Primary workpiece material compatibility is stainless steel (ISO material group M); secondary compatibility covers superalloys and titanium (ISO material group S).
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stopped and locked-out state. Seat the insert fully into the VBMT pocket and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specification for that pocket size. Inspect the insert seat and shim for chips or debris before seating to prevent micro-fracture of the cutting edge. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the 1115 grade on work-hardening materials, as catastrophic edge failure can occur without warning.
