The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755373 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn 107 series, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes. Identified by ISO code VBGT 16 04 08-UM 1115, this insert carries a TiAlN and AlCr2O3 PVD coating applied over a carbide substrate, delivering strong wear resistance and heat stability at the cutting edge. The VBGT geometry features a 35-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a UM chip breaker configuration. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, it is sized for moderate depth-of-cut finish and semi-finish passes. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and CNC operators using screw-type insert clamping (Clearance Code B, Tolerance Code G).
This insert is engineered primarily for machining stainless steel (ISO material code M) with secondary capability on superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S). These material groups demand coatings and edge geometries that resist built-up edge and crater wear under interrupted or continuous cutting conditions. The CoroTurn 107 series is a widely deployed platform for positive-rake turning on small-to-medium bore and shaft work where precise chip control is required. Two cutting edges are available per insert, offering a straightforward flip-and-run workflow for maximizing tool cost efficiency in production environments.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders that accept VBGT-style inserts with a screw-clamp holding method. ISO code VBGT 16 04 08-UM 1115 identifies the exact seat and geometry requirements for toolholder selection.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Use the correct Torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping procedure for screw-retained inserts. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination affects repeatability and can damage the pocket. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate range for the 1115 grade when running stainless or superalloy workpieces.
