The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755151 is a solid carbide turning insert in the T-Max series, designed for precision metal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a triangular 60-degree insert shape with an 11-degree relief angle and a neutral hand orientation. The insert carries a multi-layer MTCVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, corresponding to manufacturer grade 2025, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. With an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches and a corner radius of 0.0315 inches, it is suited for medium-duty finishing and semi-finishing passes. A licensed machinist or CNC programmer typically selects and installs this insert.
This insert is intended for use on ferrous and stainless workpiece materials, as indicated by the primary workpiece material code M (ISO classification for stainless steel and similar alloys). It fits standard TPUN-style insert pockets in external turning toolholders designed for triangular inserts with an inscribed circle of 3/8 inches. The T-Max series designation indicates compatibility with SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max toolholder systems. Maximum depth of cut reaches 15.70 mm (0.618 inches), making it appropriate for medium stock-removal applications on precision turning equipment.
Designed for use in TPUN-style triangular insert pockets with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, as found in external turning toolholders conforming to the T-Max series platform. ISO code TPUN1603082025 should be used to confirm toolholder pocket compatibility before installation.
Turning insert replacement is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before accessing the toolholder. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces and secure with the appropriate clamp torque per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or damage before installing a new insert, as a compromised pocket can cause insert breakage during cutting.
