The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755073 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the ISO code TPUN 22 04 04 235, this insert features a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle and an 11-degree relief angle. The TiCN plus TiN multilayer coating improves wear resistance and extends tool life across a range of workpiece materials. At 0.8503 inches in length with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, it fits standard TPUN-style insert pockets. A 1/64-inch corner radius (0.0156 inches) suits general turning applications where a sharp, defined nose geometry is required. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning, facing, and light profiling operations on metal components in production machining environments. The TPUN insert style with a clamp holding method fits tool holders designed for negative-rake, top-clamped insert seating. The grade 235 designation indicates a coated carbide substrate optimized for steel and stainless steel cutting. It is applicable in both job shop and high-volume production settings where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for TPUN-style insert pockets accepting a size 431 triangular insert with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle. Compatible tool holders must accommodate the TPUN clamp-style seating geometry per the ISO TPUN 22 04 04 standard.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before servicing the tool holder. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the tool holder manufacturer when securing the clamp or screw; do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Verify runout and tool offset compensation in the CNC controller before returning the machine to production.
