The SANDVIK COROMANT 5755040 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Identified by ISO code TPMT 11 03 04-MF 1125, it features a triangular insert shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN and AlCr2O3 dual-layer coating with grade 1125, optimizing edge stability and wear resistance in demanding cutting conditions. The MF chip breaker geometry is engineered for medium finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in screw-clamped toolholders designed for the TPMT style.
This insert is suited for turning applications targeting steel as the primary workpiece material, and it also performs in stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium applications. It belongs to the CoroTurn 111 series, which is designed for external and internal turning where a positive cutting geometry and reliable chip control are needed. Typical use cases include finishing and semi-finishing passes on precision shaft, flange, and bore geometries in both job-shop and production-line environments.
Designed for use in screw-clamped TPMT-style toolholders within the SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 111 series. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloy, and titanium per ISO material group codes P, M, and S.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
