The SANDVIK COROMANT 5754960 is a solid carbide turning insert in the T-Max S series, designed for precision external turning operations. This insert features a TPMR221 style with a 60-degree triangular shape and a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN under the Manufacturer Grade 2025 designation. It delivers a 0.4173-inch insert length, a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. With three usable cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, this insert is suited for machining stainless steel and other demanding workpiece materials. Installation and tooling setup are performed by qualified machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for use in turning centers and CNC lathes where stainless steel and similar M-group materials are the primary workpiece. The T-Max S series insert style TPMR is clamped into compatible toolholders using a top-clamp holding method. With ISO code TPMR 11 03 04 2025 and insert size code 221, this insert fits toolholder pockets specified to the TPMR geometry. It is appropriate for finishing and light semi-finishing passes where a tight corner radius and multilayer coating provide edge life and surface finish control. Chip breaker designation 53 is factory-ground into the insert geometry.
Designed for use in clamped TPMR-style toolholders compatible with ISO code TPMR 11 03 04 2025 and insert size code 221. Primary workpiece material compatibility is stainless steel (ISO material code M). Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against the T-Max S series toolholder selection for TPMR geometry.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state per applicable machine safety procedures. Use the correct torque tool for the top-clamp screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer documentation — do not overtighten or use impact tools on clamp screws. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamp for wear or damage before installing a new insert. Indexing to a fresh cutting edge follows the same lockout and seating procedure.
