The SANDVIK COROMANT 5754339 is a TNMG434-MM 2025 grade carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations, particularly on stainless steel and other difficult-to-machine materials. It features a triangular insert shape with a 60-degree included angle, a neutral hand orientation, and a multi-layer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied over a solid carbide substrate. These coatings improve wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The MM chip breaker geometry is engineered to control chip flow and reduce cutting forces in medium-duty turning applications. This insert is part of the T-Max P series, a platform widely used in production turning on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for medium turning applications on stainless steel workpieces in both roughing and finishing passes where chip control is critical. It fits CNC turning centers and manual lathes equipped with TNMG-compatible toolholders using clamp or pin-and-clamp holding methods. The MM chip breaker geometry makes it well-matched for applications requiring reliable chip breaking at moderate feed rates and depths of cut on austenitic and martensitic stainless grades. Machinists and CNC operators in general metalworking, aerospace component manufacturing, and precision part shops are the primary users of this insert type.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for CNC lathes and turning centers using TNMG-style insert pockets with clamp or pin-and-clamp holding systems. Primary workpiece material compatibility is stainless steel (ISO material code M).
Insert seating and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully stopped and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping hardware for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not force the insert into the pocket; proper seating requires clean, undamaged pocket geometry and correct clamping torque applied per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify insert orientation and hand before resuming cutting operations.
