The SANDVIK COROMANT 5754316 is a TNMG-style solid carbide turning insert from the T-Max P series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a multilayer TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN CVD coating that provides wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. With a 60-degree triangular shape, this neutral-hand insert delivers 6 usable cutting edges per insert. The KR chip breaker geometry is optimized for cast iron machining, and the insert measures 22.00 mm in length with a 0.50-inch inscribed circle and a corner radius of 1/32 inch (0.0315 inch).
This insert is intended for turning cast iron workpieces in production and job-shop environments. The KR chip breaker designation targets materials classified under ISO material group K, including gray, nodular, and compacted graphite cast irons. Typical applications include roughing and medium-finishing passes on ferrous components where predictable chip control and edge life are required. The insert is held by clamp or pin methods, making it compatible with standard TNMG-style toolholders used in both manual and CNC turning setups.
Designed for use with TNMG-style turning toolholders that accept clamp or pin insert-holding methods. ISO code TNMG 22 04 08-KR 3210 identifies the exact insert standard for toolholder matching. Primary workpiece material compatibility is cast iron (ISO material group K).
Turning inserts are installed and replaced by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully and evenly in the pocket before tightening the clamp or pin; an improperly seated insert can fracture during the cut. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before each insert change to maintain accurate seating and edge position.
