The SANDVIK COROMANT 5754248 is a TNMG432MR 2035 grade indexable turning insert designed for metal-cutting lathe operations, particularly in stainless steel (ISO material group M) applications. Built from PVD-coated solid carbide with a TiAlN and TiN multilayer coating, this insert balances moderate wear resistance with high toughness — the right combination for interrupted cuts and varying stock conditions on austenitic and duplex grades. The MR chip breaker geometry is rated for roughing and medium machining operations. The insert measures 22.00 mm (0.866 inches) in length with a 0.80 mm (0.0315 inch) corner radius and delivers a maximum depth of cut of 21.20 mm (0.835 inches).
This insert is suited for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turret lathes where stainless steel workpieces demand a tough, wear-resistant edge. The TNMG (T-Max P series) format is a widely used platform in production-machining environments across aerospace, food processing, and industrial pump manufacturing — anywhere stainless steel turning is routine. The neutral hand orientation and negative side clearance allow the insert to be used in standard TNMG-compatible toolholders with clamp or pin holding. With 6 usable cutting edges per insert, this geometry delivers strong cost-per-edge value in high-volume turning cells.
Designed for use in TNMG-compatible toolholders within the Sandvik Coromant T-Max P turning system. ANSI insert code TNMG432, ISO insert code TNMG 22 04 08-MR 2035. Accepts clamp or pin holding methods. Intended for primary use on stainless steel (ISO M) workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician during toolholder setup on a CNC or manual lathe. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping to maintain proper insert orientation and cutting geometry. Do not exceed the recommended maximum depth of cut for the insert grade and workpiece material combination.
