The SANDVIK COROMANT 5752402 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Designated TCMT221-KF 3005, it features a 60-degree triangle geometry with a neutral hand orientation and a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN. The KF chip breaker geometry is engineered to manage chip formation and reduce cutting forces. The insert measures 0.4071 inches in length with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a thickness of 1/8 inch. It is held by screw clamping and carries clearance code C with tolerance code M, reflecting tight dimensional standards suited to finish and semi-finish turning applications.
This insert is part of the CoroTurn 107 series and is optimized for turning cast iron workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material group K. The KF chip breaker and multilayer CVD coating combination make it well suited for stable, productive cutting in cast iron components found in automotive, heavy equipment, and general machining environments. It is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces, making it appropriate for shop-stock replenishment and production tooling programs managed by machinists and tool cribs.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders accepting TCMT-style inserts with a 1/4-inch (6.35 mm) inscribed circle. Primary workpiece material designation is cast iron (ISO K). ISO code TCMT 11 03 04-KF 3005.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tool-crib technician using the appropriate torque screwdriver for the toolholder's clamping screw — consult the toolholder manufacturer's specification for screw torque. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the recommended cutting parameters for the 3005 grade when transitioning from roughing to finish passes.
