The SANDVIK COROMANT 5749623 is a ceramic turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for high-speed material removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a 90-degree square shape (SNGA style) with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 3/64-inch (0.0472 inch) corner radius. It carries a 650 manufacturer grade with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating applied over a ceramic substrate. The negative land cutting edge style and neutral hand orientation make it suitable for a wide range of turning operations. With 8 usable cutting edges per insert, it offers a strong cost-per-edge value in production environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shops and manufacturing facilities are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning cast iron (ISO material group K) and is rated for secondary use on superalloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO groups S and H). The T-Max P series is a well-established platform for external and internal turning on medium to heavy-duty operations. The insert chip breaker style is designated A, and the cutting edge uses a negative land geometry suited to stable, rigid setups with consistent tool pressure. Maximum depth of cut is 0.4528 inches (11.50 mm). Typical applications include roughing and semi-finishing passes on ferrous and exotic alloy components where surface integrity and edge security are critical.
Designed for use in SNGA-style insert pockets within the T-Max P toolholder series. The ISO designation for this insert is SNGA120412T01020 650. Confirm toolholder compatibility with SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P documentation before installation. Tolerance code G and clearance code N apply.
This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench or insert key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, debris, or wear before seating the new insert. Ensure the insert is fully seated and the clamp or pin is engaged before resuming cutting operations.
