The SANDVIK COROMANT 5747390 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding metalworking applications. Built on the Series R840 platform, it features a 5.40 mm (0.2165 inch) cutting diameter, a 140-degree self-centering point, and a TiAlN coating that extends tool life in abrasive and high-temperature cutting conditions. The two-flute spiral design with coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and heat management during deep drilling cycles. Overall length is 2.5984 inches with a 6.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. This drill is specified to DIN 6535HA and carries a micrograin carbide grade for edge stability under high feed rates.
The 5747390 is rated for drilling into a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Its 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports a maximum drilling depth of 19.00 mm (1.1024 inches), making it well suited for production environments where consistent hole quality in tough alloys is required. The self-centering point geometry reduces the need for a pilot hole in most setups, improving cycle time on CNC machining centers and manual drill presses alike. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in aerospace, general metalworking, and heavy manufacturing will find this drill a direct fit for those applications.
Designed as an OEM-specification replacement or new-application drill for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses accepting a 6.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank per DIN 6535HA. Compatible workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S are confirmed by the manufacturer for this series.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with carbide tooling. Ensure the spindle and collet or chuck are clean and free of runout before seating the shank, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to lateral loading caused by excessive runout. Verify coolant-through supply is active before beginning the drilling cycle when using internal coolant passages. Follow machine-tool manufacturer guidelines for feed rate and spindle speed when transitioning to a new workpiece material.
