The SANDVIK COROMANT 5746856 is a solid carbide, uncoated milling insert designed for use in R390 series face and shoulder milling cutters. Carrying the H13A manufacturer grade, this parallelogram-shaped insert features a positive rake geometry and a KM chip breaker for controlled chip evacuation during interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert measures 0.1875 inches (4.76 mm) thick with an inscribed circle of 0.3780 inches (9.60 mm) and a corner radius of 0.0315 inches (0.80 mm). It is single-sided with two cutting edges and is held in the cutter body by screw. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and tooling technicians working in production environments are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for milling applications involving cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. The uncoated H13A grade performs well in conditions where coating adhesion or heat sensitivity is a concern, particularly with non-ferrous and titanium workpieces. The right-hand orientation and 90-degree included angle make it appropriate for shoulder milling and high-feed face milling operations. Maximum depth of cut reaches 16.00 mm (0.6299 inches). The KM chip breaker geometry supports positive cutting action across the listed material grades K20, N15, and S20.
Designed for use with the Sandvik Coromant R390 cutter series. ANSI and ISO code: R390-17 04 08M-KM H13A. Insert size code 170408 confirms fitment within the R390 system.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the spindle locked and machine powered down before any insert change. Use the correct torx or hex key for the clamping screw and follow the cutter body manufacturer torque guidelines for the specific tool holder. Inspect the insert pocket and screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Confirm insert orientation matches the right-hand designation of the cutter body before securing.
