Product Description

The SANDVIK COROMANT 5745960 is a solid carbide milling insert in the R390 series, designed for shoulder milling operations. It carries a manufacturer grade of 1020 with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert measures 11.00 mm inscribed circle diameter, 6.33 mm thick, and 15.40 mm in length, with a 1.60 mm corner radius and a positive rake angle of 5 degrees. It features a parallelogram shape, right-hand cutting orientation, two cutting edges, and a KM chip breaker geometry. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible R390 and M-40 series milling cutters.

This insert is intended for use in milling cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material group K and ANSI material grade K05. It suits face milling, shoulder milling, and ramping applications in both production shop and job shop environments. The maximum depth of cut reaches 16.00 mm, making it appropriate for moderate to aggressive material removal in cast iron components. The screw-in holding method ensures secure seating in the cutter body during high-feed operations. The ANSI and ISO code for this insert is R390-18 06 16M-KM 1020.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide substrate with PVD TiAlN coating for elevated wear and heat resistance in cast iron applications
  • 1020 manufacturer grade optimized for ISO K05 cast iron material class
  • Positive rake angle (5 degrees) with KM chip breaker reduces cutting forces and manages chip evacuation
  • 1.60 mm corner radius with corner-rounded cutting edge style for controlled surface finish
  • Two cutting edges per insert (single-sided) maximize usable life before disposal
  • Screw-in insert holding method ensures rigid, repeatable seating in the cutter body

Compatibility

Compatible with R390 and M-40 series milling cutter bodies. ANSI and ISO designation R390-18 06 16M-KM 1020. Insert size code 180616.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully powered down and locked out before changing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the cutter body specification — do not over-torque, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert.
