The SANDVIK COROMANT 5745422 is a solid carbide milling insert in the R390 series, designed for face and shoulder milling operations where precision and surface integrity are critical. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, this insert carries a manufacturer grade of 1020 and a material grade designation of K05, making it well-suited for cutting cast iron workpiece materials. The parallelogram-shaped insert features a positive rake angle of 25 degrees and a corner-rounded cutting edge style, with a corner radius of 0.40 mm (0.0157 inches) and two usable cutting edges per insert. The insert size code is 11T304, and it conforms to ANSI and ISO standard designations R390-11 T3 04M-KM 1020.
This insert is intended for use in milling applications where cast iron is the primary workpiece material, including ferrous component machining in manufacturing and production environments. It is a right-hand, single-sided insert held by screw and is compatible with cutter bodies in the M-32 and R390 series. The KM chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during interrupted and continuous milling cuts. Installation and tooling changes are typically performed by machinists and tooling technicians working on CNC machining centers or manual milling equipment.
Compatible with cutter bodies in the M-32 and R390 series as specified by the manufacturer. The ANSI and ISO catalog designation is R390-11 T3 04M-KM 1020. Verify cutter body pocket geometry and insert size code 11T304 before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat and torque the clamping screw per the cutter body manufacturers specification. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before fitting a new insert. Always confirm insert orientation and hand designation match the cutter body design before resuming operation.
