The SANDVIK COROMANT 5742773 is a solid carbide milling insert in grade 4030, designed for use in the R215.44 insert series. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during interrupted and continuous milling operations. The insert measures 3.96 mm (0.1563 inches) thick with an inscribed circle of 0.3740 inches and features a 0.80 mm (0.0315 inch) corner radius. It is a parallelogram-shaped, single-sided insert with a positive rake geometry and a corner-rounded cutting edge style. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and tool room technicians install and index this insert in compatible milling toolholders.
This insert is suited for milling steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes P and K. The R215.44 series designation and insert size code 15T308 identify its seating geometry. The WL chip breaker geometry controls chip flow during face milling and shoulder milling applications in both roughing and finishing passes. It is a right-hand insert held in place by a screw-lock method. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.5906 inches, making it appropriate for moderate material removal rates on ferrous workpieces in production and job shop environments.
Designed for use in R215.44 series milling toolholders accepting insert size code 15T308. Compatible with steel and cast iron workpiece materials (ISO P and K classifications). Catalog number R215.44-15T308M-WL 4030 confirms toolholder seat geometry and insert pocket requirements.
This insert is installed and indexed by a licensed machinist or CNC tool room technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or indexing any insert. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw - do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and runout control.
