The SANDVIK COROMANT 5742729 is a solid carbide milling insert engineered for high-performance metal removal in demanding cutting applications. Manufactured in the R210 series with an MM chip breaker geometry, it carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCrN, Al2O3, and TiN - a combination that delivers thermal resistance and wear life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert measures 9.50 mm inscribed circle (0.3740 inches) with a thickness of 4.50 mm (0.1772 inches) and a 1.40 mm corner radius. It seats with a screw-holding method and provides a positive rake angle of 10 degrees, reducing cutting forces during milling operations. Licensed metalworking professionals and CNC machinists are the primary installers.
This insert is rated under material grades P45, M40, and S30, making it suitable for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The square insert shape with a 90-degree included angle and four cutting edges maximizes economy per insert. A maximum depth of cut of 1.00 mm (0.0472 inches) positions it for finishing and semi-finishing passes. The neutral hand orientation supports flexible toolpath programming. It carries both ANSI and ISO designations, aligning with standard toolholder documentation used across production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use with Sandvik Coromant R210 series cutter bodies. The insert size code is 090414 and the full catalog designation is R210-09 04 14E-MM 2040.
Installation is performed by a CNC machinist or toolroom technician following standard insert-change procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the insert clamping screw and follow the toolholder manufacturer's seating procedure to ensure full contact on the insert pocket surfaces. Inspect the pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before installing a new insert.
