The SANDVIK COROMANT 5741231 is a round solid carbide turning insert in the RNMG43 style, part of the T-Max P series. It carries a CVD-applied TiCN and TiN multilayer coating designed to resist wear and extend cutting life in turning operations. The insert features a 0.5000-inch (12.70 mm) inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch (0.1875-inch decimal) thickness, and a 6.35 mm corner radius. With eight available cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, this insert is suited for CNC lathe and turning center applications in production environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators typically select and install this tooling.
The 5741231 is designed for primary use in steel machining (ISO material code P) and secondary use in stainless steel (ISO material code M). The T-Max P series is a recognized platform for external and internal turning, profiling, and facing in both light and moderate roughing cuts. It is applicable in residential shop, job shop, and industrial production turning setups. The insert mounts via clamp or pin holding methods and is compatible with tool holders and cartridges accepting the RNMG 12 04 00 insert format (ISO code RNMG 12 04 00 235).
Designed for use in T-Max P series tool holders and cartridges accepting the RNMG 12 04 00 insert format. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P); secondary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO code M). No wiper edge geometry (chip breaker code 00).
CNC machinists and tool-and-die technicians install turning inserts. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified hardware when securing the clamp or pin - do not overtighten by hand estimation. Inspect the seat pocket and shim for debris or damage before seating a new insert to ensure proper seating and prevent premature edge failure.
